New Homes

What an opportunity to build your home, with the environment and your wallet in mind. The needs if he green world, impacts everything that we do. The probable new changes coming forward in the building code will likely reflect the long term operating costs and the environmental impact that your home will have.

If your one of the few people that are planning to build your home, what you do today, will impact not only your time in this home, but this house for a long time.  Using high efficiency furnace reduces the amount of fuel it uses. The use of sprayfoam insulation reduces the amount of heat you loose out of your home.  They both cost more initially, but forward thinking people rather pay now, and save later.

The value of a well insulate home relies on three factors. The thermal resistance of the structure, measured in R-Value. The quality of the total structure being able to stop the air infiltration into and out of the living space. The quality of the vapour barrier to stop the moisture from impacting the insulation and the structure.

The advantage of the Walltite Eco v2, is that it will take care of the all three factors of the values of a well insulated home. On a traditional 2x6 framed wall, it will have a thermal resistance value of R30. It will not have drafting issue, because the foam is expanding foam.  The very nature of a closed cell structure makes it an air and vapour barrier.

Our current insulation of choice was batt insulation, which relies on entrapped air to insulate you home.  Thus -20 C climate outside is infiltrating into your wall cavity to steal more heat energy out out your house. The batt insulation has very little air barrier qualities, relying on the vapour barrier to act as an air barrier as well.

Our alternative to the Walltite Eco v2 is the Enertite 1-2-1. It is a open cell polyurethane sprayfoam insulation. Its very nature of a expanding foam makes it effective in stopping air infiltration, unlike the Walltite, it needs to have poly sheeting for its vapour barrier requirements.

Spending the money now on a well insulated home is an investment that will pay off in the future. The reduced cost in heating your home comparable to a home built with batt insulation. A greater value will be found in your home, because it is sprayfoamed when it is time to sell. Everybody wants a big home and a lower operating costs.
